Alvarado Elementary School
Principal's Welcome

Welcome to all of our Alvarado families, new and old. Parents are children’s first and most influential educators. We look forward to collaborating with you in providing your children with the best education possible. We have been busily preparing for the new school year. Many of our teachers have used the summer break to gain training in various disciplines. Parent volunteers have done much work in the school gardens, making them educationally accessible and more inviting. Lily and Jose, our custodians, have worked hard cleaning up the school and getting it ready for another year.
Our professional goals for 2009-2010 include:
Implementing Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) in all classrooms. Last school year, all of our teachers received intensive training in this acclaimed and powerful approach to education. We intend to implement those strategies in all classes this year.
Implementing the goals set forth in our Balanced Scorecard. Download a copy of our BSC at: http://beyondthetalk.org/bscs/es/alvarado.pdf
Provide engaging, relevant, and challenging education to all of our children.
I encourage you to communicate with me. I have an open door policy; however, I am often not in my office during school hours, since I spend much time with teachers and students. If you want in depth time with me, I will ask you to please request a meeting so I can give you my full attention. Mary Lou Cooper and Patricia Estrada, our school secretaries, have a copy of my calendar in the office. For any concerns about your child’s class, I encourage you to first contact your child’s teacher. She/he will be in the best position to help you. But please, ask questions and communicate concerns so that we can build a partnership which will ensure student success.
Since we recognize that parents are their children's most important teachers, we need your cooperation and involvement to provide them with the best education possible. Your interest and concern in your child’s school progress, and the learning they receive at home, will motivate them to do their best.
Sincerely,
Robert Broecker, Principal
