• This is an online two-way forum for parents, caregivers, staff and community members to exchange ideas, questions, challenges and information; it is different from the email list we established that sends information one-way.
• This is an ideal forum to post messages to all the members of the group, see postings from other members, and see responses to all postings. This is very much in the spirit of Tribes as it creates a virtual community circle that enables communication and sharing and will enhance our sense of school community.
• TRIBES doctrines apply here as..."attentive listening", "no put-downs (only put-ups)", "right to pass (you don't have to share or participate if you don't want to)", etc.
• NOTE: When you join the group, please take a moment to introduce yourself. Tell us who you are, how many children you have at Alvarado and what grades they are in, how long you've been at Alvarado, any special interests or things you feel passionately about (within the school and personally), expertise, hobbies, etc. etc. etc.
  • For example, if you are looking for a resource (tutoring, music lessons, babysitting, etc.), have a special concern, have a great idea, have recently discovered a great new place to take your kids, a great deal on something, a kid friendly recipe, a new program that could benefit Alvarado or the kids, or just want to pitch and idea or thought out to the members, this is a great place to do it and get feedback.

Resource links, from the National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education, to assist educators and others in preventing cross cultural misunderstanding and persecution within schools and communities as well as promote healing and respect for differences. The list includes resources on: 1) The Middle East, Islam and Arab Americans; 2) Helping cope with violence and death; 3) Challenging stereotypes, intolerance and racism, including lesson plans on community building and respect for diversity.
