About Alvarado School

We're extremely proud of the community we've created here at Alvarado. Our programs are rich, our students curious, our faculty and staff committed to providing an exceptional education for each and every student, and our PTA lends support to all our academic and enrichment activities.

Our Mission and Philosophy

Alvarado is more than a school: we are a community. We are a School of Languages, a School of Arts, a School of Cultures and Social Justice. Our mission is to reach and teach the heart and soul of the child through a fertile language experience, math, the arts and sciences.

Academic Program

Our teachers follow the curriculum establised by SFUSD. This curriculum is based on Houghton-Mifflin-Lectura for Language Arts, Harcourt Brace for Mathematics, Macmillan for Social Studies, and Foss for Science.

Faculty and Staff

We are extremely fortunate to have an enthusiastic, energetic, and committed group of professionals working at Alvarado. Click here to see a personal statement and bio from our Principal, Robert Broecker.

Parental Involvement

Without our cherished parents Alvarado would not be the school it is. Parents are an integral part of our school and of the education of our children. The family is expected and encouraged to be involved in school life.

Afterschool Programs

Alvarado boasts two exceptional on-site afterschool programs: GLO and ExCEL. GLO is a fee-based program, and ExCEL is a free, invitation-only program sponsored by SFUSD.
